We wanted to revitalize a very tired and neglected back garden dominated by a small swimming pool, a grassed area and brush fences.

JKB worked closely with garden designer Kate Whitelock to develop a pergola, paving layout, garden screening and planting areas. From their experience, JKB believe it is essential to spend time on the design so that they have a clearly defined scope, adequately detailed.  We engaged Kate Whitelock from www.gardenartdesign.com.au on their recommendation.

Our garden is compact, part of a small city townhouse, and access was difficult, with limited areas for material storage and machine access. We partially demolished the garage end wall, enabling the garage to be used for the storage and access.

A project such as this, with demolition, earthworks, rebuilding storm-water drainage, followed by paving, pergola construction, drip irrigation, planting & Outdoor LED Lighting, requires good planning and coordination. We consider this to have been one of JKB’s strengths. Another strength was the quality of their work.

JKB were proactive – as the works progressed issues arose with existing sumps, sewer IPs and gulley traps to be incorporated into the paving. JKB sought our input and came up with improved details which improved the paving aesthetics.

Another of JKB’s strengths was their ability to work with other subcontractors

• replacing brush fencing with masonry fencing
• relocating a pool pump and filter into a garden shed
• installing a garden shed
• repair of carport walls (timber framed and repainting)
• relocating gas meter
• removal of a large tree close to the pool wall

Another strength was JKB’s ability to negotiate with neighbours, responding cooperatively to any inconveniences likely to arise.

JKB worked in close consultation with us and the garden designer to produce a garden with which we are delighted. While meeting our functional requirements, it is also a beautiful garden which entices people to spend time in it, just soaking up the ambience and the visual aspects.
